7 Guidelines To Help You Know God

Guideline One

Forgiveness: To really feel and understand pure Love, one must forgive others who have wronged or sinned against them. Even when the offence or sin is extremely hurtful, you must find the forgiveness inside of you. Hanging onto hate and resentment can only effect your own well being negatively. Free yourself from the shackles of hate by forgiving. Forgive to love God and to stay on the path to your ultimate reward in heaven. Jesus Christ mentions the importance of forgiving, He went as far as stating that if you do not forgive one another your Father in heaven will not forgive you of your sins.

“For if you forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father will also forgive you your offences. But if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offences."

--- Matthew 6:14-15

As you can see forgiveness is highly important and must be an active ingredient in your life.

Guideline Two

Love: In this day and age society would lead one to believe that love is something a woman does and something a man is to masculine to do. Are men or women meant to be emotionless shells? Of course not, you feel therefore you feel. Love is so very important and I would say one of the reasons for being. Its such a powerful emotion and when directed and harnessed in your life, love will put even the worst scenarios into a positive light. Love can release you from your burdens and coupled with forgiveness your burdens will be feather weight, if that. People think that loving their family members, partner or friends is sufficient, but when it comes to the love for strangers they fall away and see no need in loving others they do not have a special relationship with. Do not forget that God created all humans and not just you and yours. If you love or seek to love God then you should also love all Gods' creatures no matter what colour, nationality or religion they hail from. When Jesus preached to this world not so long ago, he based some of his parables and teachings on love and forgiveness and if your serious about obtaining your eternal reward in heaven then you will follow Jesus and love and forgive others no matter what.

“But I say to you, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who persecute and calumniate you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, who makes his sun to rise on the good and the evil, and sends rain on the just and unjust."

--- Matthew 5:44-45

The love God has for you is unmeasurable regardless of the path you thread and since Jesus loves you, He also loves those you regard as strangers since we are all one creation. Use that knowledge when you deal with others and loving may become that bit easier, but its a challenge we must all face. For you do not love to please yourself, nor the strangers but to please your Father in Heaven who will see your works.

Guideline Three

Please and Glorify God: Try not to do good deeds to please yourself or others, instead try and do the good to please and glorify your Father in heaven whenever they should arise. Avoid glorifying man or yourself above God. Give praise to others when deserved or when needed.

Guideline Four

Commandments of Jesus: Observe and keep the commandments of Jesus to please and show love to God. Remember Jesus said the most important commandments of all is to love God with all your strength and mind and love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus asks us to simply love one another just as Jesus loves us because when you love somebody you do not want to cause them any harm, be it through extortion, stealing, killing or adultery with ones wife or husband.

The first commandment of all is ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one God; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, mind and with thy whole strength’ This is the first commandment. And the second is like it, ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.

---Mark 12:29-31

A new commandment I give unto you, That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

---John 13:34

Keep the following commandments not to please yourself but to please and show love to your Father in Heaven.

Guideline Five

Know Jesus and God: You know your earthly mother and father because you love them and when you make a perfect friend you get to know them, likewise you can get to know Jesus Christ. Jesus is the doorway to God and only through Jesus does one get to know the Father in Heaven.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me. If you had known me, you would also have known my Father."

--- John 14:6-7

Before you set out to know Jesus you must really want to know Him in your heart because if you set out to know Jesus without that need then you may gloss over His wisdom and teachings when they do not suit you. First and foremost ask and pray to Jesus to help you to know Him. In prayer one can put themselves at the feet of God and with a humble heart ask anything and grow a relationship with God through that Divine interaction.

The New Testament in the bible is a great way to begin to know Jesus. Read Matthew and if you feel the need to delve deeper into knowing Jesus read Mark, Luke and John. These books will open you up to who Jesus is and help you understand the Person of Jesus because they come at different angles at what Jesus said and did in His lifetime. There are many versions of the bible, personally I use the Confraternity version and the text that relates to Jesus is marked in red which helps me a great deal in understanding who is saying what. It uses King James text like thou, canst and thy. It’s a small learning curb to understand but it is worth it. Sometimes you may become emotional and may feel the need to give thanks to God, do so with all your heart because it will help you to know God. People might dislike using their time to read the Bible and would rather do something else. Don’t be blinded by a deterring mind, and go ahead and make some time in your life to read the Bible. Personally I like to read it while lying in bed. Reading the Bible, New and Old Testament, will increase your wisdom and help you choose the correct decisions in your life that are pleasing and loving to God. Remember God calls his own to Him, so if your feeling the need to know Jesus Christ then it could be because God is beckoning you to Him. Listen and be happy.

Guideline Six

Become Children: Ever heard of your inner child before? Do you remember the feeling of being, that you had as a child? Do you remember how care free you were and how you approached life’s questions and encounters innocently? Pride and ego were easily popped as a child and the need to do good would overcome the need to do evil. If a loving adult found a child committing something wrong, they would take the child to one side and explain to them the wrongness in their action. The child will listen to the adult and follow their instruction quiet easily and with a small amount of protesting, after all the child knows his/her place and knows the adult is much more knowledgeable and powerful then him/her. Now if it were an adult advising another adult on their mistakes you can imagine the friction it would cause. Pride and ego would get in the way and in some cases the adult who done wrong would try and descend the conversation into an argument because an adult thinks, because of age and experience, he/she is right about everything and would not like to find themselves, in their eyes, weakened by listening. Eventually the adult who did wrong may listen but maybe after a lot of wasted time and insults that would make the adult in the wrong feel guilty once they see their error. And there is another stumbling block, guilt, if the adult who committed wrong realized that by giving in he/she would have to succumb to guilt, he/she could keep ignoring what is right all because they don’t want to face their guilt. Why is this so important you may ask. Don’t you know that you will not see the Kingdom of God unless you accept it as a little child, as Jesus said:

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for of such is the kingdom of God. Amen I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God as a little child will not enter into it."

--- Mark 10:14-15

Revive your inner child, revive your innocence and listen and be guided by God without too much protest. Pop you ego and pride in situations you feel it inflate and do not use arguments as a smoke screen to blind you from the right thing to do. A child loves easily, shows respect, is meek and humble towards others. Become the child you were and look at things simply and without the need to hurt others and you will listen to God, if God wills it so.

Guideline Seven

Bear Fruit: Jesus referred to acts and works of pleasing God as fruit that grows on the vine or trees. Jesus Christ is the true vine and if Jesus Christ is in you then you are a branch of His vine and you should bear fruit to please God (John 15:1-11). To bear fruit one must use the ingredients of forgiveness and love to help others in need. Be charitable and giving to the poor, pray for your neighbor even if you do not know them, help out a neighbor or stranger with something when they need it, do good deeds to your family, neighbors and strangers. Deeds like smiling at them, making them feel welcome, making them feel loved, respecting them, humbling yourself, giving them a shoulder to cry on, listening, a helping hand, a hug, good advice, steering them away from destruction and the list goes on and on. At some point an opportunity may arise where you can pass the love, security and knowing of God to another. Grab those opportunities with both hands and do not fear because the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit will guide your words, if you ask it of Them. And most importantly of all, do all the above unconditionally for the sole reason to please and show love to your Father and Savior in heaven. Avoid glorifying yourself, only glorify God and Jesus. Avoid giving to charity for personal gain or to gain respect from the public. Avoid doing good things to please others or to be seen by others. Do to please God. Here is a word of wisdom that Jesus Himself gave, do in secret for in secret your Father in heaven will see and will reward you.

“Take heed not to do your good before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you shall have no reward with your Father in heaven."

--- Matthew 6

“But when thou givest alms, do not let thy left hand know what thy right hand is doing, so that thy alms may be given in secret; and thy Father, who sees in secret, will reward thee."

--- Matthew 6:3-4

“But when thou prayest, go into thy room, and closing the door, pray to thy Father in secret; and thy Father, who sees in secret, will reward thee."

--- Matthew 6:6

Understand that personal gain is meaningless, for even the powerful and mighty pass on, what’s the point of inheriting the world when it ultimately means your demise in the next life. Do what you need, within reason to live comfortably and be happy in your life but don’t fall for the false gifts and promises of this materialistic world. Keep your eyes and ears on Jesus Christ always and pray you and the rest of mankind do not be lead astray by the joys of this world. Pray for your neighbor.

Pray with heart: Please God in Jesus Christs name, help me to know You and Love You so that i may please You forever. Amen.
